Scioto Downs Hosts First Leg of BSS for Freshman Trotters

Buckeye Stallion Series action for freshmen trotters dominated the Tuesday (July 14) card at Eldorado Scioto Downs. Driver Anthony MacDonald and trainer Jason McGinnis teamed up to win three of the 12 divisions (seven for fillies and five for colts), each going for $20,000.
Dublins Ferani was the pair’s first winner of the night when the filly won by a length and a half over Rangel (Austin Hanners) in 1:58.1 for owner Thestable Dublins Ferani. By Uncle Peter out of the Donato Hanover mare Pat On The Back, Dublins Ferani was a $12,000 August Blooded Horse Sale purchase from breeder Dublin Valley Farm. It was the first lifetime win in three attempts for Dublins Ferani, who most recently finished third in the Next Generation on July 4 and now has $30,500 in earnings.
Next up was Popular Expert, who won by a half-length over Inrange Anytime (Kevin Detweiler) in 1:58.1 for owner Thestable Popular Expert. By What The Hill out of the Pegasus Spur mare Mona Lisa Spur, Popular Expert was an $8,000 Ohio Selected Yearling Sale purchase from breeder Marvin Raber. It was the first win in two starts for the gelding who now has $11,080 in earnings. Popular Expert went off at 8-1 and paid $18.20 to win.
MacDonald and McGinnis’ final winner was a homebred for The Stable.ca’s fractional ownership group, as Lou Armstrong won by eight and three-quarter lengths over Serg Garcia (Chris Lems) in 1:58.4. By Cuatro De Julio out of the My MVP mare My Jazz, Lou Armstrong is owned by Thestable Lou Armstrong, and the victory now has him with $15,000 in earnings in three lifetime starts with two trips to the winner’s circle.
Other filly winners for the evening included Moni Tree (Trevor Smith/Danny Collins), who won by three lengths over Judeah (Lems) in 1:57.4 for owners Collins, Alan Swayne Jr., Charles Mclain, and Phillps Stables. By Ready For Moni out of the Muscles Yankee mare New Leaf, Moni Tree was a $28,000 Ohio Selected Yearling Sale purchase from breeder Winbak Farm. Moni Tree went off at 12-1 and paid $26.40 to win.
Another Ready For Moni filly, Moni Line (Kurt Sugg/Michael Lee), won by a neck over DS Alisson (Lems) in 1:57.3 for owners Lee, Steven Maas, and Jesse Wittmer. Out of the Muscle Hill mare South Win Bax, Moni Line was a $20,000 Lexington Selected Yearling Sale purchase from breeder Glengate Farm. Moni Line went off at 6-1 and paid $15.20 to win.
Coach Me To Win (Chris Page/Steve Carter) won by a length and a half over Seven Lick Holiday (Tyler Smith) in 1:58.4 for owners Hatfield Stables, Brent Davis, and Carter. By Coach K Hanover out of the Muscle Massive mare Flirtin Flare, Coach Me To Win was a $17,500 Buckeye Classic Yearling Sale purchase from breeder Perry Coblentz.
Mitey Lil (Lems/Daren Harvey) won by a length and a quarter over Soaring Sophia (Ronnie Gillespie) in 1:57.4 for owners Wayne Mast Jr., Johns Racing Stable, and Callam Racing. By Volstead out of the Neely Dunn mare Super Lily, Mitey Lil was bred by Johns Racing Stable and Wes Hershberger. Mitey Lil went off at 5-1 and paid $13 to win.
Been Thru Hill (Carson Conrad/Dalton Walls) won by two and a half lengths over Betterbehoppin (Luke Hanners) in 1:59.2 for owner/breeder Charles Hartzell. It was the second win of the year for the filly by What The Hill out of the Uncle Peter mare Trumpeter Swan who now as $16,000 in earnings.
The last filly division was won by Sweet Valorie (Luke Hanners/Karen Fread) in 1:58.1. Winning by three and a quarter lengths over Volnilla Cupcake (Chris Page), Sweet Valorie now has $13,000 in earnings for owners Fread and Jan Fread. By Volstead out of the What The Hill mare Sweet Magnolia, Sweet Valorie was a $7,000 Buckeye Classic Yearling Sale purchase from breeder Andy Miller.
Colt winners included Mind On My Moni (Lems/Vernon Beachy), who won by three and a quarter lengths over Dollar Guard (Tony Hall) in 1:56.4 for owners 518 Group, Gitup Racing, Ryan Smith and Todd’s Auto. By Ready For Moni out of the Angus Hall mare JJ’s Jordyn, Mind On My Moni was a $21,000 Ohio Selected Yearling Sale purchase from Winbak Farm. It was the second win for the colt, who now has $14,500 in earnings.
Easter Bb (David Miller/Phillip Knox) won by six and a quarter lengths over Me Ready (Sandy Beatty) in 1:57 for Brant Brower. By Creatine out of the Whom Shall I Fear mare Fear Her Makeup, Easter Bb is a homebred for Brower and Burlin Brower. Easter BB came out of the Kentucky fair circuit and now has four wins in five lifetime starts and $25,330 in earnings.
Little Dirt Cowboy (Sugg/Kara Miller) won by two lengths over I’m Fromthecountry (Justin Irvine) in 1:59.2 for owner/breeder Callam Racing. By In Range out of the Full Count mare Anniesbluejeanbaby, Little Dirt Cowboy went off at 16-1 and paid $34.20 to win.
