The Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association (OHHA) is the only non-profit association serving Ohio's Standardbred horse owners, breeders, trainers, drivers, and fans who participate in the sport of harness racing in the Buckeye State. The OHHA was established in 1953. The mission of the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association is to preserve, protect, promote and serve the entire Standardbred industry in Ohio and beyond.
Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic Senior Accountant & Benefits Administrator to support the financial operations and employee benefit programs at OHHA. The ideal candidate will possess a strong accounting background and a working knowledge of benefits administration, ensuring the accurate tracking of financial data and the smooth management of employee benefits programs.
Key Responsibilities
Senior Accountant
• Manage all accounting functions including intercompany reconciliations, 3rd party integration tools, year-end tax forms, and complex accounting processes. • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with accounting principles and non-profit regulations. • Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely and accurate processing. • Coordinate and support the annual audit process, liaising with external auditors. • Assist in the development of annual budgets and financial forecasts. • Prepare financial reports for internal and external stakeholders. • Maintain accurate records of donations, grants, and restricted funds, ensuring compliance with donor requirements and regulatory standards.
Benefits Administrator
• Administer employee and member benefit programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, leave policies, and other benefits programs. • Act as the primary point of contact for employee and member inquiries related to benefits, ensuring clear communication and accurate information. • Maintain up-to-date records of employee and member benefits selections and changes. • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations regarding employee and member benefits. • Serve as backup for payroll processing tasks. • Analyze and report on benefits program costs, providing recommendations for cost-saving measures while maintaining program effectiveness.
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or equivalent certification preferred). • Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, preferably within a non-profit environment. • Proven experience with benefits administration, including health insurance, retirement plans, and compliance regulations. • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and accounting software (QuickBooks Enterprise, 3rd Party Tools, Excel, etc.). • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities. • Strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate complex financial information to non-financial staff. • Knowledge of non-profit accounting and federal/state regulations is highly preferred. • A team player with the ability to work collaboratively across departments. • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
