Northfield Hosts Second Leg of Ohio Sires Stakes for Freshman Trotters

Northfield Park Racino hosted six $50,000 divisions of the second leg of the Ohio Sires Stakes for freshman trotters — three each for fillies and colts — on Monday (July 20).

The three colt divisions were all won by sons of Ready For Moni. Royal Moni (Trevor Smith) recorded the fastest mile among that trio, winning the first division in a lifetime mark of 1:56.2. Way Too Easy (David Miller) led the field at the first three calls in :28.4, :59, and 1:28 before fading down the stretch. Royal Moni took the lead entering the stretch and won by two and three-quarters lengths. Debt Free (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.) was second followed by Cool Julio (Tyler Smith) in third. Royal Moni is trained by Dalton Walls, who co-owns the horse with Miller Racing Stable and Edward Marrinan. The gelding has two wins and one second with $43,500 in earnings in three seasonal starts.

Iluvmymoni (Kurt Sugg) won the second division in 1:57.1 and is now 2-for-2 this season after taking a victory in the opening leg of the OSS at Eldorado Scioto Downs on July 11. Trained by Steve Carter for owners Brixton Medical Inc. and Hatfield Stables, the gelding has $50,000 in earnings. He took the lead at the three-quarter pole and won by two and a quarter lengths. Roll’n In Moni (Chris Lems) and Walks The Fire (Wrenn Jr.) rounded out the top three.

The third division of colts went to Mind On My Moni (Wrenn Jr.) in 1:58.2. The gelding led gate to wire with fractions of :30.1, 1:00.4, and 1:29.4 for his third win in three seasonal starts, increasing his earnings to $39,500. The Vernon Beachy trainee is owned by 518 Group, Gitup Racing, Ryan Smith, and Todd’s Auto. Motor Earle (Mike Micallef) finished second followed by Jet Range (Brett Miller) in third.

Freshman Filly Trotters

Kissme Ifyoucan and Rose Run Cybill are now 2-for-2 in the OSS this year after scoring victories in Monday’s second leg.

Kissme Ifyoucan (Austin Hanners) recorded the fastest time among the three divisions of fillies, winning the third division in 1:57. The In Range filly took the lead at the halfway mark and led the rest of the way en route to winning by two and three-quarters lengths. Trained by Todd Luther for owner Greg Luther Racing, the filly has three wins and one second with $107,500 in earnings in four seasonal starts. She recorded her lifetime mark of 1:56 in her first-leg win at Scioto Downs on July 11. Miz Ella Paige (Sam Widger) and Sweet Stevie (Sugg) rounded out the top three in Monday’s race.

Rose Run Cybill (Sugg) won the first division in 1:58.3. The In Range filly trained by Daren Harvey led gate to wire with fractions of :29.4, 1:00.2, and 1:30.1 and won by a head over Made For More (Wrenn Jr.) with Anayawaka (Tr. Smith) in third. Rose Run Cybill is owned by Wayne Mast Jr. and Callam Racing. She took a victory in the first leg of the OSS in 1:57 and has $50,000 in seasonal earnings.

Secrets Ilia (B. Miller), also owned by Mast Jr. and Callam Racing, won the second division in 1:57.1 for her first career victory in two starts, increasing her earnings to $29,000. She passed On A Clear Day (Lems) for the lead at the three-quarter pole and went on to win by six and a quarter lengths. Moni Line (Sugg) and Kikionamission (Wrenn Jr.) rounded out the top three. Secrets Ilia is a Long Tom filly trained by Micah Miller.

Celebrating its 50th season, the Ohio Sires Stakes continues Friday (July 24) with the second leg for freshman filly pacers at Eldorado Scioto Downs.
