There have been issues regarding geldings listed as horses when entered. The Ohio State Racing Commission reminds horsemen of the following procedure for reporting sex alterations.

Any sex alteration must be reported to the Racing Secretary before the horse is entered.

At the time of entry, it is the trainer’s responsibility to review the entry carefully and ensure that all information, including the horse’s sex, is correct.

If a horse is entered and a discrepancy is noticed, the trainer should notify the Racing Secretary immediately. (That way there is time for the program to be issued correctly)

When a horse arrives in the paddock to race, the Identifier is responsible for verifying the horse’s sex. If it is incorrect, the Identifier should notify the Paddock Judge, who will then notify the Presiding Judge. The Presiding Judge will ensure the appropriate track personnel update the system.
