OHHHIT Medical Insurance
Medical benefits through Aetna are available to Ohio’s trainers, drivers, grooms, and farm workers. Current monthly self-pay cost is $476 for single coverage or $1,100 for family coverage. Contact the OHHA office for complete details and eligibility guidelines.

Sulky Insurance
Members are eligible for sulky insurance. Coverage extends to sulkies involved in an accident at a covered racetrack.
Supplemental coverage may be added for an additional cost.

On-Track Accident Insurance
When an accident occurs on the racetrack during a pari-mutuel race, qualifying race, matinee race, or covered Ohio county fair race, drivers have on-track accident insurance coverage as a member benefit.
Fair Track and Matinee Policy Benefits: $10,000 Accidental Death and Dismemberment, $250,000 Accident Medical Expense, $125 per week disability payment. (Restrictions apply.)
Pari-mutuel Track Policy Benefits: $40,000 Accidental Death and Dismemberment, $240,000 in addition to the $10,000 base benefit limits from each track, $75 per week disability payment. (Restrictions apply.)

Third-Party Liability Insurance
Members have third-party liability insurance coverage through this excess coverage policy for an accident or damage caused by a racehorse to a third party’s property. Also covered are racehorse mortality incidents related to shipping, fire, or other disasters under limited circumstances.

Harness Horsemen's Health and Retirement Plan (HHHRP)
Grooms, breeding farm workers, drivers, and trainers may receive a contribution into an individual retirement trust account on a yearly basis pursuant to Ohio Revised Code (R.C.3769.21). Eligibility is based on full-time employment status with a breeding farm or racing stable or number of starts as a driver or trainer.

Equine or Human Benevolent Fund
This fund is intended to provide assistance to Standardbred horses, owners, trainers, grooms, or breeding farm workers in distress or under threat of imminent harm. Benevolent assistance is determined on a case-by-case basis at the OHHA’s discretion.

Accident and Disability Insurance
Accident, Death, and Disability coverage is available for USTA-licensed drivers or trainers. Plan A provides coverage while working with horses. Plan B provides 24/7 coverage 365 days a year whether you are injured with horses or without. Link below for more information.

Owner-Trainer Equine Liability Insurance
It is recommended that all horse owners, trainers, and those who board horses for others have their own general liability policies for their horse businesses. Link below for more information on Van Gundy’s liability policy.

Workers' Compensation Insurance
Ohio businesses are required to carry Workers’ Compensation insurance on employees. As well, the Ohio State Racing Commission requires owners and trainers to carry Workers’ Compensation as a condition of licensure.
