Northfield Weekend Features Are Favored By All
January 19, 2010
All three favorites won Northfield’s featured races over the weekend, with Parking Place taking the Mares Open Pace; Camcoder the Open Pace and Extreme Makeover the top trot.
Keith Richeson’s Parking Place ($3.60) a six-year-old Park Place mare, led at every call for a 1:56 win in the $5,000 Mares open on Friday, easily holding off Look To Book and Passing Lane Penny in the short field of five. Trainer Elliott Deaton steered the mare through fractions of 27, 55.3 and 1:25.1 en route to her 12th career win. The victory pushed Parking Place’s career earnings to $97,131.
The fastest mile of the night was 1:55 gate-to-wire effort by Jerry Osborne’s Wildfire Osborne in a top conditioned event for Ryan Stahl. Stahl and Deaton each posted three winners on the card as eight different drivers found the winners circle.
Saturday, Aaron Merriman posted four wins, including one in the $5,000 Open Pace with Tony Coder’s Camcoder ($4.40) a Cam’s Magic Trick gelding trained by Robert Rogan. He got a casual 29-second opening panel over a thawing track and held off fast-closing Painted Speed to get the win, the 49th of his career, in 1:57.3. Humble Adoration was third. Sometime Eternal posted the fastest mile of the night, posting a 1:56.4 mile in a $5,000 claiming pace.
The $6,000 Open Trot went to Extreme Makeover ($4.80) as Dan Charlino “moved that bus,” to post a foggy 2:003 win over rapidly improving Son Of A Spur and Chust Chudy. Jim Daugherty conditions the six-year-old Davanti mare, sharing title on her with Susan Daugherty. She has now won 21 of 83 career starts. |
