Impressive Scioto Downs Qualifers

Driver Dan Noble put Mypanmar behind pacesetting Wind O Laag for the first 5/8-mile in a Friday qualifier at Scioto Downs, then tipped the chestnut fireball out. Mypanmar zoomed past the leader and went on to win by 21-1/2 lengths in 1:56 with Noble keeping a tight hold on the pacer through the stretch.

Mypanmar is a 9-year-old son of The Panderosa and he’s earned almost $1.4 million in his career with a mark of 1:48.3s. Virgil Morgan, Jr. trains the winner for Peter Pan Stables. Scioto conducted 17 qualifiers on Friday.

In other qualifying action, Hawk’s Cry Electra, the top freshman pacing filly in the Buckeye State last season, scored easily for the trainer-driver combo of Morgan and Noble in 1:55.4. The daughter of Mantacular won six of her seven starts last season.

Other impressive 3-year-old winners were Medoland Big Cam in 1:56 and Doc’s Yankee in 1:57.2. Medoland Big Cam, trained by Mike Medors and reined by Chip Noble, thrust his neck in front after a homestretch duel with Birkdale to win in 1:56. The winner is a son of Million Dollar Cam. Doc’s Yankee (Yankee Cruiser) went to the front at the start of his mile and paced comfortably to the wire in 1:57.2. He won by 10-1/4 lengths for Dan Noble and trainer Ron Potter. The soph pacing filly Tuesday (Dawn Ofa New Day) was a 1:57.4 winner.

The fastest trotting events of the qualifying card were a pair of 1:59.2 miles by B Winner K and Swift Slide. B Winner K, a sophomore son of SJ’s Caviar, eased to a 3-1/2 length victory after taking control the of race in the final quarter. Dan Noble drove for trainer Jim Arledge, Jr.

Other 3-year-old trotting winners were Hezahumer (Master Lavec) in 2:01 and Rees’s Racer (Jailhouse Jesse) in 2:02.4. Scioto Downs holds qualifiers again next Wednesday. Opening night of its 2010 season is Friday, May 7.
