Scioto Downs Weekend Report

July 8-10, 2010

July 10, 2010~Jates Boy wins Again
It was déją vu for Jate’s Boy on Saturday night at Scioto Downs as he repeated his 1:53.3 victory of last week.

It was his second straight win after being shut out in his first nine starts this season. Dan Noble was in the bike while Kayne Kauffman drove Jate’s Boy last week.

This week he led all the way to win while last week he came from off the pace. The 6-year-old son of Arturo is trained by Mark Gillenwater for S&S Racing Stable LLC of Lebanon, Ohio.

Sent off at odds of 3-1, Jate’s Boy paced to the front leaving the gate, rebuffing a challenge from Big Bad TJ and then one from Gunman’s Bandit. In the stretch, Jate’s Boy sailed away to a 3-1/4 length win as favored Cruizin Bayou rallied to claim second from Gunman’s Bandit.

The win was part of a driving triple for Dan Noble.

July 9-Ritz Tracker scores in Scioto feature trot

Favored Ritz Tracker got a perfect pocket trip on the back of pacesetting Awsome Andrea and shot up the inside to win the feature trot at Scioto Downs on Friday night.

Driver Dan Noble conserved the 7-year-old gelding’s speed until the stretch and then overtook the leader. Sharp Edge was second and Mr Avalanche third. Awsome Andrea faded to finish fifth. The time was 1:57.2.

It was the second win of the season in five starts for Ritz Tracker, who is owned and trained by Doris Crandell of Thornville, Ohio. He has trotted between 1:57 and 1:57.4 in all of his 2010 starts.

Ritz Tracker was one of five winning drives on Friday night for Dan Noble, including a dead-head to win in the evening’s final race.

The freshman pacing filly Cruise On Ashley was impressive in winning her first lifetime start in 1:57.2 for driver Jack Dailey. Ron Potter trains the Yankee Cruiser filly for Winchester Baye Acres of Florida. She led all the way and won comfortably by 1-1/4 lengths.

July 8~Pacer breaks 76-race losing streak at Scioto Downs

Triggerhappyfellow hadn’t won a race since late 2007, but he hit a bulls-eye on Thursday night at Scioto Downs, winning for only the third time in 101 career starts.

The 6-year-old pacer was steered to victory by Kayne Kauffman and paid $39.20 to win. He reduced his lifetime mark from 2:05 to 1:57.4 in his winning effort.

Cruisers Bruiser took the early lead for driver Jack Dailey, then surrendered to Sunny New Day. Kauffman kept his horse off the pace early, then pulled the trigger and moved his pacer into contention during the third quarter.

Then it was a duel between Triggerhappyfellow and the leader Sunny New Day. Kauffman coaxed every ounce of effort out of his pacer in the stretch and it paid off as Triggerhappyfellow edged Sunny New Day by a half-length. Favored I Ota Win rallied from far back to claim third.

Triggerhappyfellow is owned by his breeders Wendell and Ryan Malone and is leased to Angela Dipaola. He was winless in three starts as a 2-year-old in 2006, but then won twice in 23 starts as a 3-year-old. He took his 2:05h record at Lebanon Raceway.

In 2008 he started 32 times and had an 0-0-2 slate and in 2009 he faced the starter 31 times with a 0-3-2 slate. Before Thursday’s race at Scioto, Triggerhappyfellow had started 11 times in 2010 with one third-place finish.

Driver Dan Noble had a driving triple at Scioto on Thursday night.
