Scioto Downs Weekend Wrap Up
July 25, 2010
Tyler Rush brings Big Bad TJ back to the winner’s circle after his 1:55.2 win.
Driver Tyler Rush kept Big Bad TJ glued to the back of pacesetting Northern Smoke Out until the homestretch, then shot up the inside to victory in the Saturday night feature. The mile was timed in 1:55.2.
Jack Dailey sent Northern Smoke Out to the front from post eight and reached the quarter in :27.4 and then eased the second with a :29.3 quarter. Favored Spartan Pride came calling on the outside in the third quarter with Casino Advantage following in the second-over position. Driver Charles Neff moved his pacer Dandy Dick three wide in the final turn to attack the leader.
While all this action was unfolding outside the leader, Big Bad TJ was snug behind the leader on the inside. Once he had room to pace, Big Bad TJ finished with a head of stem to hit the wire a neck in front of Northern Smoke Out. Dandy Dick was third. It was the seventh win of the season in 27 starts for the 5-yuear-old son of Western Ideal from the Artsplace mare Volunteer Hanover.
The winner is owned and trained by Terry Tackett of Marion, Ohio. Adam Beatty, 26, scored his first driving victory in the evening’s third race when he piloted He’s All Art to a half-length victory in 1:55.
Friday Night at Scioto Downs Jack Dailey brings Gran Cameo back to the winner’s circle after she sprinted away from her rivals during a fast last half-mile.
When driver Jack Dailey got Gran Cameo to the front in the featured pace for females on Friday night at Scioto, he backed down the tempo and the 6-year-old mare had more than enough left to sprint home ahead of her pursuers.
Gran Cameo won her third race in her last six starts for owner Jerry Grant and trainer Charles Ross. She went off as a slight favorite and paid $6.60 to win. Dailey sent his mare to the front at the start and passed the first quarter in :28.3 and then shut down the pace with a 32-second quarter.
A third quarter in :28.1 and a final quarter in :28 was enough to discourage any homestretch heroics by the gals eating her dust. Gran Cameo hit the wire in 1:56.4 a length ahead of Standing Pretty while Astreas Notice edged Yankee Mystique for third place.
Leading driver Chris Page swept the first three races of the evening with horses trained by Virgil Morgan, Jr. to increase his lead over Dan Noble in the drivers race to four wins.
