OSRC Issues 2011 Dates

The Ohio State Racing Commission issued 691 live racing dates for 2011 during its monthly meeting at the Delaware County Fairgrounds on Sept. 22. The commission approved all date requests submitted by the state’s seven commercial racetracks. Thoroughbred tracks sought 325 live racing days next year, 33 fewer than in 2010. Beulah Park and River Downs will also offer live quarter horse racing on three days next year.

River Downs sought to race 26 fewer days in 2011, basically reducing its weekly five-day schedule to four days in 2011. Beulah Park sought seven less days.

Harness tracks will offer 366 live racing programs next year, 20 fewer than the 386 days approved by the commission for 2010.

Three harness racetracks sought to race fewer days, led by Raceway Park’s submission to race 46 days, 10 less than scheduled in 2010. Actually, the reduction from 2010 will be six days after the commission also approved Raceway Park’s request to drop four live racing dates in 2010.

Almost half of all live racing (48.9%) will take place in Cleveland next year after Northfield Park (213 live days in 2011) and Thistledown (122 live days) asked for and received the same number of live days as in 2011.
