Northfield Park Weekend Wrap Up

August 30, 2010

Unrecognized Saint Repeats in Northfield Open Pace; Top Trot To Muscle Sprouts

Shirley Otto’s Unrecognized Saint ($3.40) posted his second straight Northfield Park Open Pace win Saturday, despite being assigned the outside post 8 in the nine-horse field. Dan Charlino bided his time as B T Attack posted fractions of 27.2, 56.3 and 1:26.2. He was pressured throughout by Camcoder, but Charlino moved three wide, catching cover from Shell I Attack, the only mare in the field, and continued his three-wide rally to win in 1:55.3. Wow Power used a pocket-sitting trip to finish second and Shell I Attack was third. Unrecognized Saint is a five-year-old Capital request gelding, trained by Ron Otto. The win was his sixth in 21 seasonal starts.

Bob Schlabach’s Muscle Sprouts ($11.00) took last week off, but made it two wins in a row with a first-over bid that got him to the wire in 1:58, just ahead of Master Buckin Uhl and Norma’s Rose. Kurt Sugg attacked leader Athlete In Action as the field approached the half, clearing at three-quarters to get the win, the 6th in 15 starts for Muscle Sprouts, who missed all of 2008 and 2009. Schlabach also trains the ten-year-old Muscles Yankee gelding.
