November 21, 2009

Saturday's $6,000 Northfield Park Open Pace was won by Bob Watts ($3.00) in 1:55.2 as he prepped for next week's
$175,000 Cleveland Classic. Elliott Deaton got the lead with the the sophomore Real Desire gelding, yielded briefly
to Camcoder and then held safe the first-over bid of Expresso Forte. The win was the 9th in 23 seasonal starts for
Bob Watts, who is owned by trainer Steve Carter with Robert Reid and Chuck Grubbs. He has earned $108,117 in
his career, with $34,320 coming this year. Karbonator edged Expresso Forte in the place photo.

Striking Genius ($7.20), recently purchased at the Blooded Horse Sales Company Fall Sale by Doug Neely and now
trained Larry Clabaugh, rolled to an impressive 1:57 gate-to-wire win in a split of the $4,000 top conditioned trot.
Dan Charlino drove the gelding to a season's best win.

The other trotting split also went to Charlino who piloted Christine Barnes' Alternat Thursdays ($5.20) to victory
in 1:59.1. Ed Rider was the winning trainer.
