Northfield Park Weekend Wrap-Up
March 28, 2010
Vinas Stables' Misty's Dignity ($62.00) shocked the field in Saturday's $5,500 Open Pace at Northfield Park, taking control from 1-5 favorite Dan Chaz at 3/4 and rolling to an easy 1:54.4 win. With 10-1 Road Storm finishing 2nd and 30-1 Category Six third, the tote board nearly ran out of lights.
Misty's Dignity paid $62.00, 15.00, $36.60; Road Storm $10.40, $22.40 and category Six $35.60 with Dan Chaz off the board. The exacta paid $440.80 and the trifecta yielded $3,411.60. Trainer Ben Miller called on Kurt null to drive the winner, a son of Cam's Dignity from former Horse of the Year Sue's Misty.
The big numbers continued in the $6,000 Open Trot as Hello Carlo ($18.80) kicked off a $1,044.40 exacta and a trifecta that paid $5,994.80 when longshots Celebrity Wonder and Flowing James were second and third. Larry Clabuagh trains Hello Carlo, a gelded son of Carry The Message, for Mario Caponi. Hello Carlo never saw the pylons as he closed from post eight to win in 1:57.3 with Ken Koch at the lines. It was his third win in ten starts this year.
The Pick 5 went unsolved at Northfield Saturday night, which means a carryover of $3,199.95 will be up for grabs when live racing resumes Monday. The Pick 5 is contested on races 3-7. |
