Delivered Rules Wins Northfield Open
June 21, 2010
Charles O'Neal's Delivered Rules delivered $32.00 for every $2.00 wagered on him Saturday at Northfield as he upset the $5,000 Open Pace in 1:53.3.
That time equals the lifetime mark for the sic-year-old Signed N Delivered stallion, which he set at Colonial Downs last year.
Favored Lite Me Up took the early lead, but yielded to Painted Speed just past the 28.1 quarter pole. Painted Speed led at the 57.1 half-mile mark, but was Delivered Rules and driver Dan Charlino were underway from the back, followed by Caramel Dumpling and Gordie How.
Painted Speed began tiring badly before the three-quarter pole, costing Lite Me Up and Camcoder any chance. The outside flow proved victorious, with Delivered Rules 2 3/4 lengths ahead of Caramel Dumpling at the wire. Gordie How was third.
The win was the second in his last three starts as Delivered Rules pushed his career earnings to $81,499. |
