Northfield Park Weekend Wrap-Up
January 4, 2010
Quantum King Leo Repeats In Open Trot; Unrecognized Saint Wins Open Pace Dean Beachy's Quantum King Leo, who paid $62.00 winning last week's Open Trot at Northfield, was sent off the 5-2 second choice Saturday, but the result was the same as Dan Charlino steered dean Beachy's seven-year-old Banker Hall gelding to a half-length, 2:00.2 win that was far easier than the final margin made it appear. Quantum King Leo led at every call and pocket-sitting favorite Chust Chudy could not close on the winner. Carolina Raider was third. The win was the 9th this season for Beachy's trotter, who has earned $71,842 in his career after taking home 50% of the $6,000 purse.
The Open Pace wen to Unrecognized Saint, who has been anything but incognito in his Northfield starts. He is undefeated in three local starts for trainer Ron Otto and Jefferson, Ohio owner Shirley Otto. The 1:54 win was more impressive in light of 15 degree temps and blowing snow. Robin Miller drover the winner, a five-year-old Capital Request gelding, Miller moved from the back o the pack and did not take control until midway down the stretch, drawing off to defeat Painted Speed by three lengths, with Humble Adoration third. Unrecognized Saint has won 11 of 36 career starts while banking $86,075. |
