January 25, 2010
Humble Adoration ($5.60) won the $6,000 Uphill Battle Retirement Pace Saturday night, while Go To Jo ($7.60) won the co-featured $6,000 Open Trot.
In the Open Pace, which honored 15-year-old pacer Uphill Battle, who won 52 of 400 career starts and earned over $500,000, almost all racing in Ohio, trainer/drive Tom Hall gave favored Humble Adoration a perfect two-hole trip, going by pacesetter Painted Speed in the stretch to get the 1:55.1 win. Munster Cookie closed well for show money. A six-year-old son of King Glory, breeder Reginald Cocklin and Eric Hall own Humble Adoration, who now has $94,650 in earnings.
Ken Koch steered Go To Jo to a dominating 1:59.2 win in the Open Trot, closing from sixth with a three-wide move at three-quarters to draw off by five at the wire over Master Wheels, with Celebrity Wonder another length back at the finish. Trainer Ron Otto shares title to the ten-year-old Prise Speed gelding with Rhonda Curran. The lifetime best win was his 17th in 120 career starts.
Aaron Merriman had four winners on the card, moving into a tie with Elliott Deaton for the local season lead with 38 wins. Deaton posted a driving double Saturday, as did Dan Charlino. |
