Diamond Hunter Takes Open Trot; Painted Speed In Open Pace

Ryan Stahl put Diamond Hunter ($9.00) in the pocket behind favored Katies's Red Rose and used the inside passing lane to edge her int he stretch at Northfield Saturday, taking the $6,000 Open Trot in 1:57.3. Trained by Jeff Cox for Sherree Cox and Richard McNutt, Diamond Hunter posted a seaon's best as he pushed his career earnings to $114,727. Go To Joe closed outside to get show money.
The $5,500 Open pace went to Painted Speed ($4.40) as driver Ryan Stahl took both features for the second straight week, albeit with different horses. Painted Speed took control of the race at the 27.1 quarter, putting Perfect Door in the two hole. He was immedieately challenegd by Riverboat Baby, who continued to press the action through fractions if 56.1 and 1:25.2. As the field headed for home Perfect Door made his bid, but came up short as the Ryan Angu-trainee posted a 1:54 win.
